What Are The Main Benefits Of Using CBD Oil?
Chronic Pain Reliever
Several studies have found CBD to be effective in reducing joint inflammation and other types of pain, without side effects [1]. For this reason alone, many are now pointing to CBD as a good alternative for the treatment of arthritis.
The initial trials of Sativex, a compound that contains both CBD and THC, has shown significant improvement in sleep and pain quality in 58 patients with rheumatoid arthritis [2]. This same compound also showed a notable reduction in muscle spasms and pain in a small group of patients with Multiple Sclerosis.
Anti-Depressant and Anti-Anxiety
It has been said that CBD oils can help to reduce depression and anxiety by activating the brain receptors for serotonin, a neurotransmitter responsible for mood, appetite, and sleep.
Several experimental studies have proven this theory as they have shown notable anti-depressant and anti-anxiety effects [3, 4, 5]. However, the limited studies done on humans have only tested small populations.
One study has examined CBD’s effect against anxiety brought on by public speaking. A total of 60 people participated. Results showed anti-anxiety effects, but only in certain doses [6].
One child with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was monitored for a case study. The result showed that CBD oil was effective in helping her sleep well and in reducing anxiety [7].
Anti-Seizure in Epilepsy
Severall studies are looking on CBD’s anti-seizure effects on different forms of epilepsy. Actually, the FDA had already approved the prescription of a cannabis product known as Epidiolex for Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome, which are both childhood-onset epilepsy.
Antipsychotic
Two studies have focused on CBD’s antipsychotic effects. Their experiments showed promising results for the treatment of schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease [8, 9].
With more discoveries being publicized about CBD’s healing properties, this plant became one of the top choices for patients seeking natural treatment for conditions like chronic pain, epilepsy, anxiety and more.
As more patients begin to understand how this wonder plant works, they are often faced with a choice between using products made from full-spectrum CBD, organic CBD or CBD isolates. Are there any differences?
- CBD is labeled as full-spectrum if it contains all other cannabinoids present in a marijuana plant like cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), and 40 terpenes. It should likewise contain trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), but not exceeding 0.3% [1].
- An organic CBD is non-GMO and should contain no toxins and pesticides.
- If a specific cannabinoid was extracted from a pure CBD, it is called CBD isolate.
What Is The Best Quality CBD Oil?
If you are searching for the highest quality CBD oil – look for product that is both a full-spectrum CBD oil and an organic CBD oil.
Full-spectrum CBD Oil
With full spectrum CBD oil products, you have the advantage of “Entourage Effect”.
Having a wider range of cannabinoids and terpenes working synergistically together, you can enjoy more of the therapeutic effects as compared to a single acting CBS isolate. This has been supported and proven by scientific studies.
In an article published in the Journal of Frontier Neurology, a total of 670 patients diagnosed with seizures were investigated over a course of 11 trials. They were given either a full-spectrum CBD formula or a CBD isolate. After treatment for six months, those in the CBD isolate group showed a 36% improvement in frequency of seizures. However, the full-spectrum group showed twice as much improvement, averaging 71%. The authors concluded that full-spectrum CBD extracts had greater therapeutic effects than CBD isolates.
In another study published in Pharmacology & Pharmacy from the Lautenberg Center for General Tumor Immunology, researchers introduced full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate to two different groups of mice. Results showed that the mice that were given the full-spectrum CBD provided higher levels of pain relief. Improved and extended relief was also noted as the dose increased. This effect was not seen in the group being administered with the CBD isolate.
Organic CBD Oil
Organic CBD oil is made from unique strains of hemp that are cultivated for medicinal purposes only. What makes buying organic CBD oil so important is that it is grown using organic practices that following strict agricultural guidelines.
No form of GMOs or harmful pesticides are used, so you can feel confident that you are consuming a clean and high quality cannabidiol.
Being pure and free from heavy metals or other toxic solvents, organic CBD oil is a ‘must have‘ when choosing a CBD oil. And making sure that the product is BOTH full-spectrum and organic is a winning combo.
Tips On Buying The Best CBD Oil
If you want to make sure that you’re getting the best quality CBD oil products, you need to dig deep to find the most accurate and updated information.
Only buy CBD oils with proof of potency tested in an independent third-party laboratory. Try to get as much information as you can.
Where was the CBD sourced? Ideally, you would want one cultivated from hemp grown in Western Europe or North America.
Go for organic CBD oil brands who can prove the absence of heavy metals and pesticides in their products. Be sure you’re also not buying a product with a high concentration of THC (the psychoactive component). The legal limit is 0.3% THC. Some CBD oil products are sold with varying amounts of this hallucinogenic compound and you can purchase 0% THC CBD oil if you would prefer. Check the label and keep an eye out for the “non-psychoactive” tag.
The method of CBD oil extraction is also very important. Some methods use solvents like naphtha and petroleum that can make their way in trace amounts into the final product. These contaminants are toxic and especially dangerous for patients having compromised immune systems. Be sure to check that the CBD oils have no residual solvents.
To find the best CBD oil for therapeutic use, start with a brand that is both organic and full-spectrum. As you learn more, then you can experiment with other cannabidiol products such as CBD isolates for specific health requirements.
